Huge chunks of East Greenland are totally devoid of habitation and, in fact, have never been settled because of the pack ice brought down from the polar region by ocean currents. By the end of the summer, the ice has broken up sufficiently to allow access to remote and very beautiful parts of this region, that even in today’s age of shrinking last frontiers, see few visitors. Though traces of former Inuit settlement are widespread, today just a handful of small hunting and fishing communities are found along the entire coast. In a place where man’s impact has been so minimal, nature lies virtually undisturbed.

During these voyages, which cover many miles of extraordinary coastline, enjoy sightings of some unusual wildlife including narwhal, snowy owl, collared lemming, arctic hare, arctic fox, polar bear and musk oxen, all against a backdrop of some of Greenland’s highest mountains and most impressive scenery. Shore landings allow exploration of diverse destinations, wildlife observation and visits to ancient remains while Zodiac cruises bring glacier fronts ever closer.

Voyage Itinerary

It is only at the end of the summer, as the surrounding pack ice breaks up that access to the most remote and very beautiful parts of East Greenland becomes possible. Even in today’s age of receding last frontiers, this region sees few visitors. Though traces of former Inuit settlements are widespread, today just a handful of small hunting and fishing communities are found along the entire coast. In a place where man’s impact has been so minimal, nature lies virtually undisturbed.
