This 16-day icebreaker expedition sails from Resolute north to the high latitudes of the western shore of Ellesmere to Island. Landings are intended on Ellesmere Island, Devon Island and in Tanquary Fjord. Aerial-sightseeing is planned over Axel Heiberg Island and the Belcher Channel.
When the BBC decided to produce a sequel to Planet Earth – Frozen Planet – the filmmakers turned to our partners at the voyage operator for logistical support. As a result, a BBC film crew will be shooting footage aboard Tanquary Fjord: Western Ellesmere Island.
During the voyage, the crew will deliver presentations and show dailies – raw footage captured during each day’s filming. The dailies will be filmed with the technology that enables the BBC’s Natural History Unit to capture never-before-seen footage of wildlife in their natural habitat.
Route of Voyage
Please note the voyage route and daily itinerary is subject to weather conditions therefore flexibility is the key to enjoying your expedition voyage to the full. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
This voyage commences in Ottawa with a pre-voyage overnight, before the charter flight the next day to Resolute, where you will step aboard the icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov. Enjoy spectacular scenery in the good company of the knowledgeable and friendly Expedition Team and your fellow like-minded passengers, with a penchant for adventure! Finally, the Kapitan Khlebnikov returns to Resolute, and following disembarkation you will fly south to Ottawa for a final overnight before bidding farewell to your travelling companions (and then the flight home). Day 4-5: Devon Island.
Day 6-9: Western Ellesmere and Tanquary Fjord.
Day 10-11: Eureka Sound.
Day 12: Norwegian Bay and Belcher Channel.
Day 13-14: Cornwallis Island and Beechey Island.
Day 15-16: Fly from Resolute to Ottawa.
