Accommodation

We stay in cabins with private facilities (and where possible, air conditioning), which vary according to your choice of vessel. We also stay in a comfortable city centre hotel in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito.

Meals

All meals on board the vessel are included, as well as breakfasts in Quito.

Tour Guide

All excursions during the holiday are led by local English and Spanish speaking guides. There are no guides outside the Galapagos section of the tour.

Maximum Group Size

Various, dependent on vessel option (passengers may include other participants not part of the Discover the World group).

Special Skills and Equipment

Please remember that luggage is limited in weight to only 12.5kg (27lbs) excluding hand luggage - clothing on board is casual. If you wish to snorkel (highly recommended) you must bring your own equipment. Shore landings are often made by zodiac (rigid-hulled inflatable boats) therefore not for people with mobility problems. Shore excursions vary considerably in length - please check with us if you are concerned about walking. Due to severe fires in 1985, it is now prohibited to smoke on the islands.

Weather

Average temperatures range from 28°C (82°F) to 18°C (64°F). The rainy season in Ecuador lasts from January to May, although rainfall is minimal. Sea conditions are normally calm around the islands.

Vaccinations and Visas

A yellow fever certificate is compulsory if you are arriving from an infected area. Hepatitis A, tetanus, typhoid, polio and yellow fever vaccinations are recommended and, in some circumstances, diphtheria, hepatitis B, TB and malaria (seek further advice from your doctor). Visas are not required by UK citizens but your passport must be valid for at least six months upon arrival.
