KAKSLAUTTANEN
Kakslauttanen is situated in the vast and breathtaking fell area of Saariselka, 300km north of the Arctic Circle. Here is the setting for one of our most popular winter breaks where you have the option to stay in a cosy log cabin with a night in an ice room or a quirky glass igloo! Page 64 has details.
This is a serene, quite isolated part of Finland, with a very romantic feel and therefore a popular wedding and honeymoon destination. With great possibilities for watching the northern lights across wide, uninterrupted skies, and a great number of optional excursions, it is also popular with families or groups of friends.

LAINIO
the delightful Snow Village is a great attraction – here you can experience sleeping on ice – other facilities built entirely from the white stuff include an ice bar, a lovely ice chapel, an art gallery and attractions for children – the ice maze is a great favourite. There is also a wide selection of wood cabin accommodation, dotted amongst snow-covered trees.

YLLAS
the fell country in the north of Finland is beautiful and during the winter it positively glistens. The dry climate, plentiful powder and numerous undulating slopes have made Yllas Finland’s most popular ski resort - the facilities are welcoming and first-rate. Whether a novice or an advanced skier, all abilities are catered for and unlike many Alpine resorts, Yllas never feels crowded. But it isn’t just skiing that can be found here, there are many other winter activities and the hotel where our trips are based has a marvellous spa and a health and fitness centre (see page 70). A short drive from Yllas is the Snow Village at Lainio.

JERISJARVI
this part of the northern Finnish fells is close to the Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park and is where we set our lakeside Pure Lapland trip - one look at the unspoilt scenery and you’ll know why. There is no downhill skiing here and although other activities are available, many come for the relaxed atmosphere. The beautifully secluded hotel has a Japanese Spa and focuses on peace, harmony and wellbeing. Spa and other treatments are available but must be pre-booked.
