In Iceland we operate four core programmes, based on our years of experience and excellent local knowledge but in each case we are able to adapt the itineraries to suit your group needs. We can also advise and provide tailor-made programmes for youth groups and expeditions.

With Whom?
As with all of our fieldwork programmes we provide the detailed structure and background information, notes and advice. You capitalise on the locations to suit the interests of your group. You are the leader and field study tutor but at no stage need you have any concerns. A registered guide will accompany every group. Our Code of Practice, provided for all groups, clearly indicates the responsibilities and expectations. We also provide a Code of Conduct for you to pass on to your students. Nearer to departure we will provide detailed information and tips relating to your travel and accommodation as well as the CD of field study units (South Iceland only).
When?
Iceland is accessible throughout the year although it has to be said that the mid-winter period is not ideal for hands-on fieldwork. The weather is noted for being very changeable and this is true at any time of year though Iceland does possess quite a mild climate for its latitude. From mid-May to late July it remains light all night with the sun hardly setting at all, while between October and March the spectacular northern lights can often be observed. Our most popular times are Easter and the October half term because the prices are more attractive and there is more availability with accommodation. Nevertheless, if you book early, summer offers better weather and longer hours of daylight though is more expensive and busier. Study visits generally range from 4-7 days inclusive. We are happy to advise on the best times to travel to suit your requirements.
To Do What?
The choice is yours. You can concentrate on either field studies, ‘awe & wonder’, or recreational activities, alternatively you may want to combine the three. If you wish to use the occasion for your students to collect the data for their A-Level or GCSE coursework then that is also possible. Alternatively you can devise a self-sufficient tailor-made field visit or expedition. We have many years of experience in Iceland and are in a position to advise on all of these approaches.
