One of the most enthralling cities in the world with a dynamic urban landscape, cosmopolitan society and a number of world famous sights and attractions. Few people can fail to have an image of New York. It is the most photographed city in the world and has provided the backdrop for more films that even the most avid film buff can possibly name. Famously, it is ‘the city that never sleeps’ and as a complete contrast to the sparsely populated, wide-open spaces of Iceland few places could be more appropriate.
Part of the state of New York, the city itself is comprised of 5 boroughs, though Manhattan is the best known and is home to most of the city’s most famous landmarks. With a recognisable skyline this small island, 13.5 miles long by 2.25 miles wide, is the main focus for most visitors to the city and is the basis for our tours. Structured around a grid system, avenues run south to north and streets east to west with the 843-acre Central Park at its heart. The entire city is serviced by an efficient and very reasonably priced Subway system, thus finding your way around is very straightforward.
Our ability to link New York and Iceland within a single trip provides you with a unique contrast in geographical landscapes.
Contrasting Environments
This is a special budget 6-day itinerary to enable students to compare and contrast two quite different tourist destinations. The itinerary has been designed to provide the maximum opportunity to sample the highlights and ‘must dos’ of both destinations including the famous Blue Lagoon and Geysir in Iceland followed by the Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building and Central Park in New York. Students following a range of subjects, including travel and tourism, geography and art will find the visit of enormous interest and value.
