Travel Specialist – Operations

We are seeking someone with a passion for travel, the required skills and previous relevant experience, together with a desire to deliver exceptional customer service and who is results and target orientated with a flexible and adaptable ‘hands on!’ attitude.

As a Travel Specialist primarily for operations you will undertake various supportive administration functions. Responsibilities include confirming travel arrangements for both package and tailormade holidays, creating and dispatching customer documentation, general office services and customer service responses. You will provide direct support to your fellow Travel Specialists (Sales) and handle customer service communications from Discover the World clients to provide a high level of specialised and personal service throughout the booking process.

Experience/Skills required

  • Experience (ideally 2 years) working for a specialist tour operator and experience in a similar role - essential
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately; excellent spoken and written English are essential
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to deal with change, growth and pressurised deadlines
  • Teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Influencing and negotiating skills
  • Computer knowledge, including basic practical skills using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • GDS airline reservation skills (Amadeus)
  • A love of travel and foreign cultures
  • Dynamic and self-management attributes
  • Destination knowledge of any of the following; Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the Polar Regions, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland

Hours of work
9-5 pm or 10-6 pm rota Monday to Friday (35 hours per week plus Saturdays). No more than 1 in 2 Saturdays per month - 12 Saturdays (48 hours) included in overall hours, lieu time given for extra Saturdays worked. NB generally Saturday hours are 9-1 pm between April and August and 9-5 pm between September and March, but hours may change dependent on business requirements.

Tailor Made Sales Manager

Discover the World, one of the UK’s leading destination specialists for 30 years, is recruiting a Tailor Made Sales Manager to head up a team of destination specialists. Based at our head office in Banstead, you will be an integral part of our growing company.

With the support and guidance of the Business Operations Manager your role will be to drive excellent sales results and an outstanding level of customer service through a team of dedicated destination specialists. You will ensure that each client is sold the most appropriate holiday to their requirements and you’ll work to maximise yield and profitability from our tailor made products as well as increasing the levels of repeat and recommended business. Responsible for the day to day recruitment and management of the tailor made team, you will have the skills and ability to inspire, motivate and develop your team.

This role would suit a confident and personable senior travel expert from a luxury or tailor made travel background. It is essential you have experience of managing a team and can demonstrate a proven and consistent track record of high sales performance. Exceptional customer service skills, attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple work streams are paramount. Experience of selling or travelling within one or more of our range of destinations would be helpful but not essential.

Essential Skills/Experience required

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent
  • Previous experience working at a management level within a luxury / tailor made travel environment
  • Experience in managing a sales team with the ability to motivate, train and develop staff
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Competent use of office IT products including use of reservations databases, MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to develop relationships at all levels
  • Well-travelled

Assistant Product & Marketing Manager – Education Department

Based at our head office in Banstead, the successful candidate will be responsible for a number of key roles, whilst working within a dedicated team of 12 travel professionals. These include assisting the Department’s Product Manager in the management and development of various products and preparing various digital and printed marketing materials. Product management includes, but is not exclusive to Iceland, Azores, Italy, China, Morocco, Norway and Costa Rica. The successful candidate will also manage and maintain our Safety Management System for all destinations, and provide day-to-day management of our social media platforms.

The Candidate
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience of working in a marketing role with additional product experience an advantage. A passion for the destinations we sell is essential, along with a positive, flexible and adaptable attitude and  the ability to work well within a small, professional and passionate team.

Additional Skills/Experience Required

Essential

  • Experience of working in a marketing role, preferably within the travel industry
  • Outstanding writing skills, with significant experience in writing accurate copy for customer documentation, marketing materials and campaigns
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately with a good level of numeracy, excellent spoken and written English
  • Knowledge/experience of using social media for business
  • Strong ability to negotiate with suppliers from a variety of cultures
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to deal with change, growth and pressure
  • Strong customer service, influencing and negotiating skills
  • Competent use of office IT products including MS word, MS excel and MS outlook
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop relationships at all levels
  • Ability to thrive on working in a pressurised environment and to strict deadlines


Preferred

  • Experience of working in a product role
  • Knowledge of the education travel industry and the destinations we offer
  • Knowledge of geography and science
  • Experience of health and safety management
  • Experience in using a website CMS
  • Knowledge of Amadeus, Travelink and TravelBox systems
  • Experience of using photographic software such as Photoshop or similar
