Introduction
Located on Cape York, 35 kilometres south of Cooktown in Far North Queensland, Mungumby Lodge offers a genuine Australian experience where the simple things count. This boutique resort-style property is at the apex of three unique and very distinct tropical landscapes - primitive rainforest, expansive outback and a pristine coastline on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Together these areas host an abundance of animals, birds, insects, fish and mangroves – in fact the wildlife here is such a drawcard that recent guests have included Sir David Attenborough!
Mungumby Lodge features 10 wooden bungalows with ensuite bathrooms and private patios, scattered throughout the gardens of the homestead. The homestead is used as a communal area by all guests and offers tea and coffee making facilities as well a telephone and email service. There are no telephones in the guest rooms and television and mobile phone coverage are not available due to the lodge’s remote location.
The Lodge can be reached by a 40 minute flight or by road. From Cairns it is 3.5 hour drive along on the inland route, or a scenic 6 hour journey along the famous Bloomfield Track by 4WD. Within walking distance of Mungumby are opportunities to swim in jungle waterfalls, observe wildlife, re-live history or even enjoy the hospitality of a local Australian pub built in 1875... Mungumby Lodge offers a true escape!
