Introduction to Erpsstadir Cottage
Erpsstadir is a working farm with cows, sheep and horses so you’ll have the opportunity to get to know the animals! Owned and run by a lovely farming family; Einar and Helga and their children; you can expect a very warm welcome, and arguably the best icecream in the whole of Iceland! A visit to the dairy and the calf shed is a must, as well as a taste of the freshest cheese, milk and delicious skyr (a creamy yoghurt). The cottage sleeps up to 9 and has a double bedroom and two twin bedrooms (plus extra beds if needs be). There is a comfortable lounge and kitchen area, a washing machine in the bathroom and outside a veranda with a seating area and private hot tub. Whether enjoying the long days of summer, or the northern lights in winter, a stay here is a relaxing experience, but with a host of natural attractions within easy reach.
Being located close to Budurdalur (approx. 150km from Reykjavik), towards the top of the the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, this is a great base for getting out and about in this spectacular part of Iceland. Visit the snow-capped volcano and glacier which give the peninsula its name, stroll along sandy beaches, see bird cliffs, sea stacks and the rugged coastline around the tip of the peninsula or maybe even go whale or bird watching. Just north from here is the gateway to the remote and beguiling West Fjords, with the Vatsnes Peninsula's (known for its seal life) and picturesque Skagafjordur area east of Erpsstadir, should you wish to explore further afield.
Please note that it is a steep gravel track from the farmers’ (owners) house to the cottage itself. Should you wish (particularly if you do not have a 4WD) then the owners (Helga or Einar) will assist you with a transfer in their jeep from their house to the cottage upon arrival and check-out (you may park by their house). It is an approx. 10-15 mins walk from the house to where the cottage is located, with wonderful views over the surrounding area.
