Queensland

It’s easy to see why Queensland is Australia’s most-visited state, with highlights including the world’s oldest rainforest and the mesmerising Great Barrier Reef. Golden beaches stretch along the endless coastline, whilst the hinterland’s mountains and forests offer an alternative backdrop in which to relax or explore. Brisbane and Cairns are the state’s two main gateways, worth spending some time in before venturing further afield. A strong Aboriginal heritage permeates northern Queensland with a number of cultural experiences available.

Offshore, numerous islands scatter the coastline, providing the ideal base from which to explore the world’s largest living organism, the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkelling, diving, sailing, glass-bottomed boat trips and helicopter flights offer a variety of perspectives on the corals and marine-life of this awesome State.

Cairns and the Northern Beaches
Located in northern Queensland and surrounded by tropical rainforest, the thriving resort town of Cairns is the gateway to star attractions including the Great Barrier Reef, idyllic offshore islands and Cape Tribulation. North of Cairns lie Port Douglas and Palm Cove, friendly little towns fringed by sandy beaches.

Cape Tribulation and the Daintree
The ancient rainforests of Daintree National Park and deserted beaches of Cape Tribulation can be visited on a day trip, but with a little more time available you can immerse yourself in this remote and wild region.

Islands of the Great Barrier Reef
With so many islands to choose from, there is something to suit every budget and taste. Tented cabins, 5* retreats and family-friendly resorts make for a relaxing break and easy access to numerous watersports, including snorkelling and sailing.

Brisbane
Located on the banks of the Brisbane River, this cosmopolitan city is full of character. Climb the Story Bridge, enjoy a cruise on the river or head further afield to Australia Zoo. Those with more time may wish to visit nearby Fraser Island or Moreton Island, or relax on the beaches of the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast
To the south and north of Brisbane respectively, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast offer endless stretches of sandy beaches and resort towns. The theme parks of the Gold Coast are great for families whilst the Sunshine Coast provides a laidback atmosphere.
