A world apart, Greenland is just a short flight from Iceland, yet it couldn’t be more different. Fly west over the pack ice to Kulusuk, a community on the remote and rugged east coast. In clear weather, enjoy stunning views of the inland icecap as the aircraft comes into land. Walk to Cape Dan and observe life in a traditional fishing and hunting village. There is time to stroll around the village itself, purchase handmade craft articles or even strike up an acquaintance with some of Kulusuk's 360 inhabitants. Weather permitting, see a demonstration of kayak rowing and the ancient drum dance, which disappeared a long time ago on Greenland's west coast but is still kept alive by a few people on the east coast. Return to Reykjavik by air.

Begin by exploring one of the many lava caves in the Blue Mountains just outside of Reykjavík. Next, hike in a beautiful area filled with hot springs and bubbling mud pools down through Reykjadalur (the Valley of Smoke) where you can take a relaxing bathe in a naturally heated river. This is an unforgettable excursion through some very rugged terrain. Begin with a drive through the vast plains of southern Iceland before climbing through the spectacular Thjorsa Valley. Cross rugged lava fields, unbridged mountain rivers and sprawling arctic deserts, to reach Landmannalaugar, a landscape of sweeping mountains. Opt to bathe in naturally heated water. Continue to the foot of Mount Hekla, the most active volcano in Iceland.
