ICELANDAIR Flights & Travel
HIGH PRAISE FOR ICELANDAIR
In light of the May 2010 volcanic ash cloud disruptions, read how Icelandair Made Crisis Management Look Easy
|
Icelandair offers up to 16 scheduled flights each week from the UK to Iceland - twice daily departures from London Heathrow and four times a week from Manchester and Glasgow. |
||
| The airline has linked the UK with Iceland for over 60 years. In 2009, Icelandair had the best on-time performance of any European carrier and rarely cancels flights. | ||
ICELANDAIR AIRCRAFT
Icelandair operates Boeing 757 aircraft with new interiors that are fitted with leather upholstered seats. The new leather seats take up less space and are much lighter than the old seats, resulting in a lighter weight aircraft that is more fuel efficient and of course provides more leg room for passengers. The seat back interactive entertainment system offer movies, television programmes, music and more.
Key Features
- As a scheduled airline, timetables are very rigid and any timing changes (which very seldom occur) are minimal (usually within 30 mins of original departure) and generally do not affect itineraries.
- Own a fleet of aircraft, exclusive to the airline, allowing for ease of replacement in the unlikely event of any technical issues occurring.
- In operation since around 1937 (with the first international flights to Scotland and Denmark in 1945), Icelandair enjoys well-established long-term relationships with key airports, allowing the airline to benefit from desirable take-off times (‘slots’), and gain priority (for instance in case of poor weather) for revised departure ‘slots’.
- Complimentary soft drinks, tea and coffee (economy cabin) with other beverages and food available for purchase and a brand new in-flight entertainment system (no additional charge). Additionally, a complimentary meal with wine and beer is available for those booked in Economy Comfort; and those travelling in Saga class will enjoy all beverages and a choice of two main courses (on European routes) complimentary, together with business class check-in and lounge access, pre-flight drink, newspapers and hot towels.
- Children (aged 11 & under) receive a light snack, headphones, and free postcards (which will be posted by the airline for them).
