Throughout New Zealand, standards of accommodation are very high across all categories from backpacking hostels to exclusive retreats. There is a fantastic selection to choose from including hotels, motels, boutique properties and luxury lodges all of which feature on our website. For ease of use, each of our self drive itineraries is based on a single type of accommodation throughout, but we can tailor-make your holiday to use any combination of the properties available.

HOTELS

Conveniently categorised into budget, tourist and first class these range from large top quality hotels in the major cities to small comfortable motels throughout New Zealand. The properties that we feature have been chosen for their good value for money, their location and the reliable service that they offer. Most hotels have their own restaurant, while others utilise nearby eateries, but all properties provide the following facilities as standard:

To make it easier for you to choose your accommodation, we have included definitions of the three categories of hotel accommodation that we offer and included an average cost per night, taking into consideration the variance between regions. Properties have been classed according to the ‘best available’ in each area.

Budget Class - motel style, value for money often with kitchen facilities. May be located on the outskirts of town
(2.5 - 3 star)

Tourist Class - mid-range, comfortable hotels, usually close to the centre of town
(3-4 star)

First Class - usually in a central location, good hotel facilities offering a high level of service

HOTELS OF CHARACTER

Hotels of Character are a handpicked collection of mostly smaller properties; chosen for their interesting design, historical background or just for that indefinable ‘character’. They include an Edwardian style town house, a classic colonial country mansion and a reproduction Italian villa.

Each is unique and often the lifelong project of its owner. Fine dining, accompanied by an excellent choice of local wines, is offered at many establishments.

Any of these hotels can be incorporated into a tailor-made itinerary however we also offer a choice of self drive itineraries, based around this style of accommodation.

NEW ZEALAND LODGES

Individual properties in superb locations, New Zealand lodges offer an exceptionally high standard of accommodation and a very high level of personal service. Some properties are close to popular destinations like Rotorua, the Bay of Islands and Southern Lakes, while others are tucked away on remote islands or in secluded valleys that invite exploration.

Ranging in size from four to twenty bedrooms, each is truly unique and has its own special character. Superb food and specially chosen wine is very much a feature and recreational facilities, including golf, fishing, bush walking and adventure sports are also available.

Offering a lovely touch of luxury to your itinerary, we recommend staying 2 nights to make the most of the experience.

FARMSTAYS & B&B

The ultimate option for those wanting to experience true kiwi living, these family run properties offer the chance to get to know the locals and their way of life. Providing comfortable and homely accommodation in a choice of over 1200 beautiful rural locations throughout the country, each farm is different but visitors can expect the same friendly welcome and relaxed atmosphere at all of them. Breakfast and a three course family dinner, often using produce grown by the hosts is included. Ideal for independent travellers a stay can be incorporated into any independent itinerary. The Bed & Breakfast option offers city and town accommodation in family homes and small guesthouses throughout New Zealand. Accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis, which gives you the chance to try out local restaurants for your evening meal. Please ask us for details of what is available in your chosen area.

HOLIDAY PARKS

A motorhome is an ideal way of travelling around New Zealand and offers total flexibility when it comes to choosing where to spend the night. It is possible to park free of charge just about anywhere away from the main tourist areas. Those wanting a little more in the way of facilities are very well catered for with powered and non-powered campsites found throughout the country, often in first-rate locations. A powered site at a Holiday Park for a motorhome and 2 adults will cost approximately £5-13 per night. As well as providing camping grounds many parks now offer a wide range of cabins, motel units, villas, backpacker style units. There is also the option of the cheaper, but basic, DOC campsites.
