Glacial Lagoon & Vatnajokull by Air
Fly from Reykjavik's domestic airport to Hofn in Hornafjordur, located in the shadow of the mighty Vatnajokull glacier, larger than all the other glaciers in Europe combined. From Hofn travel by coach to the glacial lagoon and jump onboard a specially adapted boat* which will sail amongst gigantic icebergs. This area was the setting for the opening scenes of the James Bond film, Die Another Day.

Activity Adventure

Jump onboard a quad bike/ATV** to experience Iceland’s incredible landscape up close. In the shadow of Vatnajokull, pass by green hills and rivers raging through ravines forged by the forces of nature. Perhaps catch a rare glimpse of a herd of reindeer, the only place in Iceland where this is possible. Finally, visit the Glacier Exhibition in Hofn to learn about the area, its nature and basic glaciology. The exhibition looks out onto Vatnajokull and it's tongues, and a platform on the roof is also accessible for a panoramic view of the surroundings.

Enjoy lunch (extra cost, payable locally) at the glacier lodge, before slipping into protective jumpsuits, helmets and gloves. After a brief introduction head off onto the glacier on snowmobiles**, guided through this world of ice and snow!
