A short horseriding tour in the Icelandic countryside, only a 30-minute drive from Reykjavik. This tour is ideal for those who would like a 'taster' of riding an Icelandic horse, with its unique gait, the 'tolt'. Explore the gentle riding paths and the meadows around Eldhestar's farm at Vellir. This tour is offered year-round, on request, starting from Hotel Eldhestar. (no transfers from Reykjavik)

Heritage Tour - 1.5-2 hrs
Ride through meadows and lava fields. Pass by several farms and learn about how agriculture in this area, and particularly horse breeding, has developed in the last decades. This tour offers good opportunities to experience the unique gait of the Icelandic horse on the many paths ideally suited to the speed somewhere between a trot and a canter. At the end of the tour enjoy a coffee and homebaked goodies at Hotel Eldhestar (which adjoins the riding centre). Morning and afternoon departures available.

The tour begins by exploring the lush meadows surrounding Eldhestar's farm at Vellir. Guide your horse on the old track which runs alongside the Ingolfsfjall mountain, named after the first Norwegian Viking who settled in Iceland. Morning departures available.

Soft River Banks - 2.5-3hrs
In the saddle of your purebred Icelandic horse follow the Olfusa River to an old cemetery and continue down through the meadows. From there, enjoy picture-perfect views of both the river and the volcano Hekla. Ride past a bird sanctuary before returning to the farm Vellir. Morning departures available.
