Introduction
This new and innovative excursion has been devised by Spaceport Sweden in collaboration with the Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna to find a solution to the most common problems facing aurora hunters, that of cloud cover and artificial light. By flying above the cloud, this exclusive flight offers the highest possible chances of witnessing the northern lights.
The excursion begins at the ICEHOTEL at 19:30 with a northern lights presentation. After a 20-minute transfer to Spaceport Sweden, you'll be ready to take off at 20:30 aboard a Beech 200 aircraft for the one hour northern lights flight well above the clouds and artificial lights. To round off the evening in style, a 'Northern Lights' drink will be served at the ICEBAR. With just 4 set departures* and 9 seats available on each flight, early booking is highly recommended!
Departure Dates
15 January; 5, 12, 19 February 2012
* Note between 1 January and 15 March 2012, it is also possible to charter this flight for your own private use (maximum 9 passengers) at a cost of SEK 37,445 (approximately £3,570).
Terms & Conditions
If the Institute of Space Physics advise that the lack of solar activity indicates a negative chance for northern lights activity, the flight will be cancelled with 48 to 24 hours notice. In this case, you will receive a full refund.
You will receive a full refund if the flight is cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
You will receive a partial refund of SEK 3895, if the flight takes place, but no northern lights are visible.
Discover the World holds an allocation of seats on each flight, however the payment will be made directly to the Icehotel in Swedish Krona. In case of refund the Icehotel will make this directly to the customer in Swedish Krona.
With only 9 seats aboard the aircraft and four scheduled departures, this will be a highly sort after and exclusive experience. It is also possible to charter the plane.
