Introduction
Lamington National Park is just 100kms from the cosmopolitan city of Brisbane, yet feels like a world away. Home to 20,200 hectares of varying forest types, from temperate Antarctic Beech forest, through the sub-tropical rainforests, to the dry eucalypt forest of the northern escarpment, this World Heritage site provides food and shelter for a huge array of sub-tropical birdlife, as well as reptiles, frogs, mammals and invertebrates.
From here you will travel to another World Heritage site, Fraser Island. Fraser is the largest sand island in the world, and a place of exceptional beauty. Long uninterrupted white beaches flanked by strikingly coloured sand cliffs, over 100 freshwater lakes, and ancient rainforests growing in the sand along the banks of fast-flowing, crystal-clear creeks provide a diverse habitat for more than 354 species of birds.
