Introduction
Spend a night in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia’s capital, before travelling to your base at Alert Bay for the next few days’ wildlife adventures.
You will stay at beautiful Alert Bay Lodge, a secluded retreat situated on the south shore of Cormorant Island, just north-east of Vancouver Island. The log-built lodge overlooks Johnstone Strait towards the Vancouver Island Mountain Range and is the ideal base from which to enjoy the region’s incredible wildlife.
The Johnstone Strait is home to the largest population of orca in western North America, and these incredible creatures are often spotted from the lodge throughout the summer months. During your stay here you will enjoy a half-day whale-watching cruise and a full day search for grizzly bears at Knight Inlet. Other wildlife you may see includes black bears, bald eagles, cougar, deer, sea lions and a wide array of cetaceans. Time is also available during the week to relax at the lodge or to explore the nearby culturally-rich village of Alert Bay.
