Finland : Adventure Week

Departures: June to October Duration: 7 nights Price: from £1,087

Iso-Syote is a very special place on the southern border of Finnish Lapland. This is actually Finland’s southernmost fell area, situated in Syote National Park, around 150km below the Arctic Circle. It is a charming and secluded ski resort in winter and in summer it offers plenty of opportunities for enjoying the beautiful outdoor life, through a range of activities.

Introduction

With the skis in storage until next season, the resorts in Finnish Lapland are still well and truly open for business during the summer months, providing the ideal setting for hiking, quad biking, canoeing, fishing and more. This new trip offers an active break in a beautiful environment – combining scenic hills and ancient spruce forests with the midnight sun phenomenon of long daylight hours – you’ll be surprised how much energy you have and what you can fit into a day! Together with the freedom afforded by a hire car and the exciting excursions available, this is an unmissable summer adventure.

Stay in a choice of cabin – the Kelo log cabin dotted amongst the trees, a Fjell Top wooden cabin or in the main hotel, also situated on a hill top. The hotel’s restaurant has fabulous panoramic views over the fells and offers an a la carte menu as well as a daily buffet. There is also a lobby bar and a 14m indoor swimming pool with saunas open for guests. Close to the ski slopes, now gloriously green, there is a café which serves pasta, pizza and other light meals.

Experience the action and excitement of a quad bike safari along forest trails; the feeling of being completely at one with nature as you paddle a canoe across crystal clear lakes; and the chance to learn the real technique of Nordic walking as you take to the hills for a guided hike, learning about local flora and fauna. It may also be possible to visit nearby husky or reindeer farms as well as enjoy a campfire under the midnight sun.

The area features a number of hiking trails of varying distances and difficulties: from easily traversable, short nature trails to more challenging hikes. A Visitor Centre has information and maps covering the whole area, and an exhibition displaying the cultural heritage and nature of the region. For more leisurely pursuits, spend some time fishing in the waterways or berry and mushroom picking, permitted in the national park and recreational area.

So what are you waiting for, come and enjoy summertime in the Syote Fell District!
