And whilst sightings of nature’s own light show can never be guaranteed, we are moving into an age when more accurate predictions are possible. On this short self-drive break in the south west, learn about this amazing phenomenon and hopefully witness it for yourself.

Duration: 4 hrs (9 hrs with transfers from Reykjavik)

This excursion takes you to the frozen glacial tongue of Solheimajokull. Accompanied by an expert guide, walk with crampons up onto the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and crevasses awaits. Along the way can try your hand at ice climbing (equipment provided) on one of the impressive ice walls. Includes approx. 4 hrs on the glacier, glacier gear and safety equipment. Bring warm clothing, rain gear and hiking boots. *Available with transfers from Reykjavik, or meet at the Solheimajokull car park (11:30 daily for self-drive clients).

Minimum age 14 years. Level: easy.
