Iceland : Aurora Nights Self Drive

Day 1 Keflavik-Hotel Ranga fly from the UK to Keflavik*, collect rental vehicle from the airport and enjoy a scenic drive (just a couple of hours) to Hotel Ranga, home for your next 3 nights. 

Day 2 explore South Shore explore the wonderful south with the iconic waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, the little town of Vik with its hilltop church and the dramatic coastline with its black sand beaches. It is even possible (weather-dependent) to reach the glacial lagoon at Jokulsarlon in a long day’s drive from here. 

Day 3 explore Golden Circle drive the famed Golden Circle route taking in Iceland’s three most famous natural wonders: thundering Gullfoss, the geothermal area at Geysir and Thingvellir National Park, where you can walk the rocky rift between the earth’s tectonic plates. 

Day 4 Hotel Ranga-Keflavik check out and head back to the airport*, perhaps stopping at the Blue Lagoon enroute, or driving the scenic route along the south coast and through acres of dramatic lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula. 

* Dependent on flight schedules (MAN/GLA passengers may be arriving late in the evening, or departing on an early morning flight), you may wish to add nights at either end of your stay either in Reykjavik or at the Northern Light Inn, which is just a 15 mins drive from the airport and is next to the Blue Lagoon (a dip here is recommended – extra cost – prepayable). Note those looking for a quieter Icelandic break may wish to opt for a mid-week stay at Hotel Ranga, as weekends at this lovely log-cabin style property can be busy with both Icelandic and overseas visitors.
