Just 230 km from Keflavik airport, and a few hours drive from Reykjavik, you will find charming and cosy Hotel Budir, situated on the southern side of the stunning Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The remote location, next to sweeping lava fields and with uninterrupted views out to the ocean, make the hotel a perfect base for exploring this rugged peninsula whilst enjoying the comforts of a beautiful hotel.
On this western limb of Iceland, there's no denying the intriguing scenery of Snaefellsnes. The snow-capped volcano, Snaefellsjokull, looms above the region, the coastline is riddled with columns, arches and caves, while waterfalls spill from under old lava flows. There's history and charm too, with plenty of picturesque villages to explore.
The winter months (when conditions allow) are the best time to see the magical aurora borealis. After dinner in the hotel's gourmet restaurant (three-course evening meals are included) keep watch for the northern lights or cosy-up next to one of the warming open fires dotted around the hotel.
On this self-drive trip your 4WD will ensure you can explore this stunning area comfortably even in wintry weather.
