Introduction
Who for? Suitable for the more active visitor who enjoys exploring by car and on foot.
First-time visitors to Iceland are always keen to see the Golden Circle region which encompasses three of the island’s best-known natural features – Thingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir. However, on this week-long itinerary you’ll also get to see two more of the breathtaking waterfalls for which this country is famed – beautiful Seljalandsfoss and the mighty Skogafoss.
Travel further east for a visit to Skaftafell, now part of Vatnajokull National Park, the largest national park in Europe. A short hike to Svartifoss, the ‘other-worldly’ waterfall backed by basalt columns, is highly recommended. At the spectacular glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon you can sail amongst icebergs of all shapes and sizes for some fantastic photo opportunities. At Vik take a walk along the black sand beach and view the distinctive and much-photographed coastline.
Experience another dimension to Iceland with a range of exciting and optional activities, from rafting to glacier hikes.
