Highlands and Lowlands
Everyone who visits the south of Iceland cannot fail to be impressed by the wonderful landscapes and the iconic natural wonders liberally scattered across the region: glaciers spilling out over the land glistening in the sunlight; the colored rhyolite peaks and lava fields at Landmannalaugar; the Eldgja volcanic rift; the famous and active Hekla; picture-postcard waterfalls and the awesome glacial lagoon at Jokulsarlon – to name but a few.
However, not everyone considers venturing into the highlands which, once you’ve seen what they have to offer, you’ll be glad you did! This is a stunning area where pure nature means pure enjoyment. With your high ground clearance 4WD vehicle, tracks, unbridged rivers and inclines can be tackled with care and with ease. Breathtaking scenery at every turn makes for plenty of photo stops and there are ample opportunities for walking, hiking, snowmobiling, horse riding and a number of other optional activities.
And what better way to end a day out in the fresh air – a rejuvenating soak in an outdoor hot tub – each of the hotels offered here have them.
