Iceland : Iceland 'Jigsaw' North Guided Tour

Who for? Those who wish to explore the north of Iceland in a small group, accompanied by an expert driver/guide.

This 7-night short break forms one piece of our Iceland 'Jigsaw'; a programme of itineraries that are available to book individually or combine to make the ultimate Iceland experience. The North 'Jigsaw' is offered on a full board basis, staying at the delightful Lava House* in the Adaldalur Valley, in rooms with shared facilities. Travel in a group of up to 11 people and enjoy 'home from home' comforts with a lounge, kitchen and dining area and outdoor hot tub in this stylish property.

Your driver/guide will ensure you enjoy an in-depth tour around the highlights of this region, as well as further afield deep into the highlands at Askja caldera, and the less-accessible parts of Lake Myvatn, thanks to the use of a mountain truck and superjeep respectively. Therefore two full days at Myvatn are included on this itinerary.

Also included is a day exploring the Trollaskagi Peninsula, visiting the photogenic waterfall of Godafoss, before seeing the lovely town of Siglufjordur, then on to Holar and Hofsos; an early bisphoric seat and trading post respectively. Of course a tour in the north would not be complete without touring the 'Diamond' route of Husavik and the Jokulsa Canyon National Park (Asbyrgi and Dettifoss).

This tour starts and ends in Akureyri, which is easily accessible with an Icelandair flight from/to Heathrow, thanks to quick onward connections at Keflavik (with checked-through luggage) as of summer 2012.

* there are now limited spaces available at the Lava House, but alternate accommodation is available at the nearby Guesthouse Brekka.
