Introduction
Who for? Those who wish to explore the beautiful south with like-minded people, under expert guidance.
This 5-night short break to Iceland forms one piece of our Iceland 'Jigsaw'; a programme of itineraries that are available to book individually or combine to make the ultimate Iceland experience. The South 'Jigsaw' is offered on a full board basis, staying at the friendly family-run Vatnsholt Farm, near Selfoss, in rooms with private facilities. Travel in a group of generally between 12-20 people.
Enjoy an in depth look at all that this region has to offer, including the famed trio of wonders that make up the Golden Circle route; Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geothermal area and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir National Park. Plus, enjoy a day's exploration of the Westman Islands, and see for yourself the devastation caused by the 1973 eruption, and how the local population live in harmony with the elements.
Also included is a day at Thorsmork, 'Thor's Wood', which was affected by the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull in May 2010; see the effects of the eruption as well as the ash-layered Gigjokull glacier, whose glacial lagoon no longer exists, and the now solidified lava flows from the crater. The beautiful south also boasts Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, as well as the natural rock arch at Dyrholaey and the curious basalt columns of Reynisdranga's sea cliffs.
The tour includes a visit to the world famous Blue Lagoon.
