Introduction
Whether travelling from south to north or vice versa, you’ll experience riding across the wild and striking heart of Iceland and find yourself flanked by huge glaciers, surrounded by remote desert and in the midst of vast green meadows. Visit the famous sites of Geysir geothermal area and the magnificent waterfall Gullfoss as well as Thingvellir National Park en route to the rugged interior.
The powerful Icelandic horse is ideally suited to the varied terrain of the highlands from the raging rivers to the loose stone deserts, while the deep canyons and soft, fertile valleys are where the tolt can be practiced at its best. Riding with the herd throughout, this tour will not disappoint keen riders wanting a truly Icelandic experience.
Your experienced and knowledgeable guides will lead you past extinct volcanoes, around lakes and across wild glacial rivers. In keeping with the pioneering essence of the trek, accommodation is in rustic mountain huts with limited facilities throughout. At Hveravellir, a geothermal area in the highlands, take a dip in the natural hot bath, which under the light of the midnight sun is quite unforgettable. A night is spent in a guesthouse in Reykjavik at both the start and end of the tour.
