Iceland : National Parks and Natural Wonders

Departures: April to September Duration: 9 nights Price: from £862

Discover magnificent scenery in three of Iceland’s national parks across the country, among them Vatnajokull, the largest in Europe. Moon-like volcanoes and brooding grey deserts contrast with shimmering icecaps, vibrant green valleys, peaceful fjords, sleepy fishing villages and naturally, countless waterfalls in all shapes and sizes.

National Parks and Natural Wonders

Who for? Our most popular itinerary for those who wish to see the best the island has to offer.

Flying from Reykjavik to Akureyri on Day 2 allows you more time to spend in the most scenic places. You may prefer to extend your trip slightly and drive to Akureyri – call us to discuss your options. Whichever route you decide to take, you cannot fail to be impressed with the diversity of the landscape.

Take in the many wonders of the captivating regions of Lake Myvatn and Jokulsa Canyon in northern Iceland. Lake Myvatn teems with wildfowl, while its shores are peppered with intriguing volcanic formations, lava fields and bubbling mud pits. Experience the ground-shaking falls of Dettifoss in the Jokulsa Canyon.

Roam the East Fjords with their picture-perfect fishing villages tucked into sublime scenery. Marvel at the icebergs in the glacial lagoon of Jokulsarlon. Easily photographed from shore, you can also get amongst these big, beautiful blue bergs in an amphibious craft.

In Skaftafell go hiking and soak up the amazing views, before heading along the south coast to the town of Vik and on towards the thundering falls of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss

Last, but by no means least, are Iceland's three Golden Circle attractions; the ancient assembly site and tectonic beauty spot of Thingvellir, the double-tiered cascade of Gullfoss and the geothermal hotspot of Geysir with its erupting plumes of water.

Don’t forget that you can also add an extra night anywhere along the route, for a surprisingly reasonable cost – please ask for details.
