Introduction
Who for? Keen walkers with a good standard of fitness (walks are rated 3.5/5 for challenge level and vary in duration from 1-6 hours).
Travelling in a group of around 11 people, this full board walking holiday is based at the Lava House in the Adaldalur Valley, close to Myvatn and the whale watching capital of Husavik. Walk up to 6 hrs a day, sometimes with several shorter walks in one day. This itinerary has been designed to ensure you make the most of your time in this unique country.
One of the itinerary’s highlights is a boat trip across Skjalfandi Bay to a remote and uninhabited area of the north only reached by water, for a very special day’s hiking. During this boat from Husavik, we hope to see cetaceans, which frequent this area.
This itinerary allows for two days exploring one of the most popular tourist regions in Iceland – Lake Myvatn – however it will be possible for the group to expore further afield, thanks to time allowed for walking 'off the beaten track'. Marvel at the curious lava formations of Dimmuborgir and see the bubbling mudpools of Namaskard; this area is also a paradise for ornithologists, thanks to the prolific birdlife.
Visit the Jokulsa Canyon National Park, and Europe’s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss.
