Iceland : Killer Whales and Northern Lights

Departures: January to March Duration: 4 nights Price: from £598

After a successful 2012 Season, this exciting short break based on Iceland's stunning Snaefellsnes Peninsula returns between January and March 2013. Head out on boat trips for close-up encounters with the large groups of orca that often frequent the Grundarfjordur bay! Right in the middle of the aurora season, this time of year is also fantastic for northern lights activity. In the company of knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides, this is a small group tour of around 25 participants.

NEW for 2013 - Exclusive WhaleFest, 17 February!

Itinerary

4-night Itinerary

Day 1 UK-Iceland fly from London Heathrow* to Iceland. Late afternoon arrival at Keflavik Airport. Meet with your driver/guide and enjoy a scenic transfer to the remote fishing village of Grundarfjordur on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. A drive of around 3 hours. Check into Hotel Framnes on a full board basis (including three-course evening meal) or Guesthouse Grundarfjordur on a breakfast basis for 4 nights.

Day 2 whale watching morning whale watching trip out into the fjord (starting at approx. 11:00 due to daylight hours). Alternatively, it is possible (weather-permitting) to take a short hike in the area. Enjoy a delicious dinner either at the hotel for those staying at Framnes or make use of the self catering facilities at the guesthouse. Alternatively sample one of the two restaurants in the village. Enjoy a relaxing evening and keep an eye out for the northern lights.

Day 3 explore Snaefellsnes Peninsula after breakfast set off on the road for a full day tour of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, in the company of your knowledgeable driver/guide. See sweeping lava fields and the mystical Snaefellsjokull; a glacier sitting atop a sleeping volcano. This area was the setting and inspiration for Jules Verne's famous book 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'

Day 4 whale watching and visit to Stykkisholmur morning whale watching excursion. Following lunch, board the coach for an afternoon visit to the pretty village of Stykkisholmur with it's charming harbour and fascinating Volcano Museum.

Check in for the late afternoon flight to London Heathrow*.

* Note
flights with Icelandair are available from Glasgow and Manchester, however do not depart daily. Therefore addition nights pre and post-tour may be necessary in Reykjavik (return transfers between Keflavik Airport and Grundarfjordur will be via Reykjavik to pick up any group members enroute); please contact our team to discuss details.
