Itinerary
Please note that this itinerary is flexible regarding overnight stays in either Reykjavik or Hveragerdi (in the countryside); please talk to our team about your requirements and a tailor-made option.
Day 1 Reykjavik fly from the UK to Keflavik, collect rental vehicle upon arrival at the airport and drive to Reykjavik for an overnight stay at Hotel Cabin.
Day 2 Reykjavik/Hveragerdi choose to either stay an extra night in Reykjavik (and overnight at Hotel Cabin), or move to the countryside (staying in Hveragerdi - at Hotel Ork). You will have chance to explore the amazing natural wonders that are within easy reach of Reykjavik. Head east over Hellisheidi, past the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi on your way to the Geysir geothermal area. Marvel at spouting geysers, including Strokkur which ejects a 30 metre jet of water into the air, every few minutes. Visit nearby Gullfoss, the magnificent two-tiered waterfall and historic Skalholt with its lovely church. Drive around the lake in Thingvellir National Park, and walk between the rocky divide in the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates; a great tear in the earth's crust. Either return to Reykjavik this evening (a short 60-90 mins drive) or return to Hotel Ork at Hveragerdi (under an hour's drive from Thingvellir).
Day 3 Reykjavik/Hveragerdi Iceland is best explored by car; and your rental vehicle gives you the freedom to explore the quiet open roads of the countryside. Perhaps drive further along the south coast to Seljalandsfoss and walk behind the curtain of water, or on to another waterfall, the mighty 60-metre high Skogafoss. Wander around the base of the falls and perhaps visit the fascinating little museum and turf houses that nestle into the mountain close by. Overnight at Hveragerdi (or possibly at Hotel Cabin, if you would prefer to return this evening to Reykjavik).
Day 4 depart Keflavik time-permitting, perhaps explore the Reykjanes Peninsula with its 12 lighthouses and volcanic features, or stop and take a dip enroute in the Blue Lagoon (entry payable locally). Return to Keflavik for the flight back to the UK.
