For visitors the excitement lies in knowing that you will be travelling where conventional vehicles simply cannot go, as well as seeing the wilder side of the island. In winter, studded tyres give good traction on ice, while reduced air pressure in the tyres allows the vehicles to glide over deep snow, rather than sink into it. In the summer, the enormous tyres cope with the uneven terrain without a hitch and with the high clearance you’ll be surprised at what the vehicles can tackle!
On the 3 night trip spend two full days exploring wild and out of the way places in these incredible vehicles and discover the remarkable and dramatic landscape that makes Iceland so unique. Drive the famed Golden Circle route and visit some of Iceland’s best known natural wonders: the Geysir geothermal area with its spouting hot springs; the two-tiered falls of Gullfoss as well as historic Thingvellir, a scenic and very rugged area ideally suited to being explored by superjeep. The next day, drive along the south coast, visiting impressive Skogafoss with its magnificent 62m high curtain of water, take a walk behind elegant Seljalandsfoss, see the dramatic coastline with its black sand beaches and the natural rock arch at Dyrholaey. At the end of each day return to Reykjavik, Iceland’s lively capital, where the evenings are free to relax - perhaps enjoy the nightlife or dine out at one of the city’s fine restaurants.
On the 4 night trip, have an extra day to traverse the craggy Reykjanes Peninsula and take a dip in the Blue Lagoon, relaxing in the warm, milky-blue waters of Iceland’s most famous geothermal bathing spot set amidst a jet black lava field.
Each superjeep seats 2-7 people and often several vehicles will travel in convoy. The exact route taken each day will depend on the weather but wherever you go in the hands of these expert drivers, you can be sure of a thoroughly exciting, enjoyable and safe time.
Optional excursions between October and March, when sightings of the northern lights may be possible, the driver-guide will be on hand to take the group out of town to a special vantage point – this evening trip usually lasts around 4 hours.
Snowmobiling is possible year round (at additional cost) and drivers must hold a valid licence. Participants on the Superjeep Weekend Safari receive a 10% discount on this optional excursion.
