Introduction
Who for? Nature lovers who enjoy multi-centre holidays
This week long holiday offers the chance to explore three of the North Atlantic's most fascinating islands. Your adventure begins with two nights exploring the capitaving Faroes before heading to Iceland for the final four nights with one full day spent on the Westman Islands.
The Faroe Islands
This island nation has a strong identity, its own language and intriguing heritage which, together with its exceptional natural beauty and a collective coastline that stretches over 1100km combine to make a remarkable holiday destination. Europe’s highest cliffs are found here, with Cape Enniberg, rising an astounding 754m above sea level, as well as some of the greatest collections of seabirds in the North Atlantic - around 3.5 million gannets, kittiwakes, storm petrels, fulmars, guillemots and puffins.
Torshavn, the capital, is a busy little town providing a pleasing mix of old and new and an ideal base from which to explore. A good infrastructure makes access to neighbouring islands simple and there many optional excursions available should you wish to go horse riding, bird watching, walking or hiking, fishing or perhaps take a boat trip.
The Westman Islands
This group of 15 volcanic islands off Iceland's south coast is famous for its puffin population. Heimaey, the largest island, has a thriving fishing town, partly destroyed during the 1973 eruption that thrust up a new volcano.
Iceland
With an additional full day at leisure in the island's capital, take advantage of a whole host of excursions and enjoy the fabulous scenic sights that sit on Reykjavik's doorstep including waterfalls, geysers and geothermal wonders.
