Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Iceland

Transfer from Keflavik Airport to Hotel Cabin in Reykjavik.

Day 2 Reykjavik-Hvammur

Transfer by bus from Reykjavík to Hvammur Farm, where you will meet the horses and guides. Ride through Vatnsdalur Valley, crossing the river Vatndalsa. This beautiful valley is the setting of one of Iceland’s iconic Sagas. Ride along the river bank before crossing over to the western side of the valley finishing at Sveinsstadir Farm. Return to Hvammur Farm for our overnight stay. (5-6 hrs.)

Day 3 Sveinsstadir- Hop- Borgarvirki

Ride on Thingeyrasandur sand bar and towards Lake Hop where you’ll sense the excitement of the horses as they reach the open plain. The trail leads right across the lake, which is Iceland’s fifth biggest, on a safe track across the water. This is easy riding but the experience is unforgettable. Continue to Borgarvirki, a fascinating fortress from the Viking ages. Stay overnight at Hvammur Farm. (6-7 hours)

Day 4 Hvammur- Hvitserkur- Thingeyrar

Explore the beauty of the Vatnsnes Peninsula and follow black sand dunes of Sigrídarstadasandur towards the North. Just offshore you can see Hvitserkur, a basalt rock formation where many seabirds nest. This area is home to large numbers of seals that rest on the beach. Cross Lake Hop for the second time and follow a different route on the way back to hammur Farm. Enjoy bathing in geothermal water at a local swimming pool before a hearty dinner at Hvammur Farm. (6-7 hrs)

Day 5 around Hvammur

The last day of riding brings some great trails, ideal for experiencing the tolt. Ride on the eastern side of Vatnsdalur Valley, past Hvammsfoss, surrounded by impressive basalt columns. Return to Hvammur Farm and enjoy a celebratory feast in the barn. (5-6 hrs)

Day 6 Hvammur-Reykjavik

Depart the farm and board a bus for the journey to Reykjavik over Kjolur Highland Road. Travel through the rugged wilderness of the Icelandic highland. Be amazed by natural hot water pools at Hveravellir and enjoy a dip in one of them. View the majestic glaciers Hofsjokull and Langjokull, and powerful Gullfoss, before reaching the well known Geysir area. Return to Reykjavik in the early evening for an overnight stay.

Day 7 Depart from Iceland

Transfer by bus to Keflavík Airport in time for the return flight home.
