Wild Iceland
Who for? Especially good for birders and those who wish to travel the road less trodden.
Separated from the rest of Iceland by a strip of land just a few miles wide, the West Fjords rewards visitors with spectacular scenery, traditional fishing villages and towering seabird cliffs, those at Latrabjarg are Europe's largest, home to the country's largest concentration of seabirds including puffins, kittiwakes, razorbills, fulmars and guillemots.
At Husavik, known as the whale watching capital of Europe, visit the fascinating Whale Museum or set sail in a converted oak fishing boat for a whale watching trip.
Lake Myvatn teems with wildfowl during the summer months while its shores are peppered with intriguing volcanic formations.
Be sure to bring plenty of storage media for your camera as the views and vistas on this itinerary have to be seen to be believed. With coastlines and countryside which define an island still in the making, an appreciation of all things natural is a must.
