These two itineraries offer the perfect complement if you're travelling to New Zealand to visit friends or family but also want some time to explore.
North Island Getaway
From Auckland, the City of Sails, wend your way north to the Bay of Islands, known as the 'Birthplace of the Nation' and learn about New Zealand's history and Maori culture. Included here is a Dolphin Eco Encounter which includes a swim with the dolphins.
From the Bay of Islands travel south to the Coromandel Peninsula and allow time to explore the magnificent beaches and native forests. The North Island would not be complete without a visit to the Thermal wonderland of Rotorua where a full day's sightseeing is included: from a guided tour through Te Puia Thermal Reserve to the kiwi conservation programme at Rainbow Springs, and on to the Agrodome Leisure Park famous for its entertaining sheep show, a gondola cable car ride to the Skyline Skyride for incredible views over Mt Ngongotaha; and a relaxing visit to the Polynesian Spa at the end of a very busy day.
Make your way back up to Auckland and drop off your rental vehicle before leaving the North Island.
South Island Escape
From Christchurch, head across Arthurs Pass to the West Coast famed for the striking glaciers of Franz Josef and Fox. Continue down the coast to the stunning and iconic Southern Lakes region visiting charming Wanaka and then onto Queenstown - the 'adventure capital of New Zealand'.
From here, head inland through the alpine heart of the South Island to the striking landscapes of Tekapo. Continue through the Canterbury Plains returning to Christchurch.
