Norway : Tromso and the Icehotel

Day 1 UK-Norway fly from the UK to Tromso via Oslo with Scandinavian Airlines. Spend 3 nights at the Thon Hotel Tromso or upgrade to the Rica Ishavshotel.

Days 2-3 Tromso time at leisure to explore Tromso. There are many optional excursion on offer, please see our website for details.

Day 4 Tromso-Abisko take the scenic coach journey to Narvik (4 hours), then travel by train through the mountains to Abisko (1 hour and 40 minutes). Check in at Abisko Mountain Station. After dinner, make your way to the chairlift (a 10 minute walk from your accommodation) where additional clothing or a blanket will be provided, should you need it – it is advisable to wrap up as the temperature drops as you ascend to the Aurora Sky Station. After the 20 minute ride, hopefully the aurora borealis will be visible – spectacular displays have been known to fill the entire sky here for around two hours but it must be remembered that this is a natural phenomena and therefore sightings cannot be guaranteed. Warm up in the summit café, take a look at the exhibition and enjoy being in the company of other eager aurora seekers. Take the chairlift down, head back to the Mountain Station and perhaps finish with a warming drink in the bar before retiring.

Day 5 Abisko-Kiruna-Icehotel travel by rail to Kiruna and transfer to Jukkasjarvi. Check in at the Icehotel for a 3 night stay (one in a Snow Room). Take a guided tour of this awesome ice construction, designed and built annually, a concept that has been literally ‘wowing’ guests for over 20 years. You’ll also have time to get kitted out with your one piece thermal suit, boots and gloves which will be loaned to you for the duration of your stay at the Icehotel.

Day 8 Sweden-UK check out of the Icehotel and transfer to Kiruna Airport for your flight back to the UK. You can upgrade to a transfer by snowmobile or husky sledge if preferred, please call for details.

Please note as flights operate via Oslo and Stockholm, it is possible to extend your stay in these two famous Scandinavian capitals.
