Introduction
Sweden's most southerly province, Skane, has undergone a significant development in recent years with the completion of the 16 km long Oresund Bridge and tunnel, linking Malmo to Copenhagen, and thus Sweden to the to the rest of Europe. From the bridge you can see the architecturally fascinating Turning Torso towering above the skyline.
The southwest corner of the province has excellent beaches, picturesque towns and a remarkable Viking-style settlement. Created to show the way of life in the 12th century, Foteviken has since become a Mecca for people from all over Europe who want to live as Vikings, with a number of characters with wild beards, who firmly believe they are Vikings!
Along the coast, the countryside is scattered with castles as you travel towards the pretty medieval town of Ystad. The south east corner boasts colourful pastoral scenery dotted with Viking monuments, such as Ales Stennar, an awe-inspiring Swedish Stonehenge.
