Sweden : Varmland Summer Adventure

Day 1 fly from the UK to Stockholm. On arrival transfer to the railway station to catch the train from Stockholm to Karlstad. Leave the hustle and bustle of the capital city behind as the train heads inland into the peaceful Varmland region. Alight at Karlstad and from here you will be transferred to Hotel Uddeholm for an overnight stay, a building steeped in history.

Day 2 your adventure begins with a 10 or 18 km hike, part way along an old bear hunter trail. Follow the route using GPS to your next overnight stop, Bjorns Wardhus, a country inn with a homely feel and delicious locally produced food. An interesting museum about Varmland’s wilderness is nearby.

Day 3 part of the journey today is on a dressin - unique to the area and often a highlight of the trip, it is a pedal trolley moving along former railway tracks. Travel south from Rada to Munkfors, then stay in a small family run hotel well known for its delicious ice cream!

Day 4 drift down the beautiful Klaralven river by raft, swim or try and catch some fish along the way. For a real taste of adventure, spend the night on a small island, cooking dinner over an open fire and sleep in a tepee.  

Day 5 after breakfast and packing up, hop into canoes for a relaxing paddle downstream. At the end of the 12km canoe trip it is just a short transfer to Klaralvs Banan Guesthouse, a recently renovated farm and your home for 2 nights.

Day 6 a morning to relax or enjoy the optional activities on offer: canoeing; fishing; hiking or swimming in the nearby lake. In the afternoon, there is a great opportunity to do some horse riding into the forest, suitable for complete beginners.

Day 7 enjoy a beautiful 45 km cycle ride on the Klaralvs Banan, a unique trolley path built on top of old railroad tracks, using pedal power to propel you past unspoiled forest, pretty lakes, rolling hills, historical sites and buildings. Check in back at Hotel Uddeholm for the night.

Day 8 leave Varmland today and head back to Stockholm for your flight home.
