Antarctica : Akademik Ioffe

Once part of the Russian scientific fleet this ship was built in Finland with an ice-strengthened hull and designed to be exceptionally stable, manoeuvrable and quiet. There is ample deck space and public areas, including lounge, bar, library, gym and sauna. The window-lined dining room is catered by international chefs offering a varied menu. There is also a full complement of Zodiac crafts aboard and a medical room.

Twin share cabins are available (on a same gender basis). Sole occupancy of a cabin incurs a supplement.

Setting the Ioffe apart is the unique opportunity to mix pampering and well-being with adventure against the Antarctic backdrop. In addition to the kayaking and camping on offer, the Ioffe also boasts an on-board personal fitness trainer and a massage therapist. Whether you are interested in a vigorous morning exercise workout, something gentle to get the blood flowing, or even a stretching session, our trainer will offer daily activities to help keep you fit. Our massage therapist will offer a range of spa treatments onboard the vessel including Swedish, deep tissue and sports therapy massage, hot stone massage, and various types of hydrotherapy.

Following a day of excursions, a sauna with complimentary aromatic oils can be a wonderful way to unwind. Located on Deck 1, the sauna and adjacent indoor plunge pool is open each afternoon and evening. The sauna seats about six people and the indoor plunge pool is always filled with water.

Also on board this vessel is a resident photographer, available to offer advice and instruction via multimedia presentations, group workshops or on the spot help whilst out on shore. Our onboard photographer will be available to work with you throughout the voyage to help you improve your photography and will encourage you to look at scenes or events in a different way in order to capture them digitally. You can ask questions to “tweak” your own work and then stay alongside our resident expert on each excursion, gaining valuable improvements to your own work as he/she relates their own career’s experiences.

Finally, unique to this vessel is a team of adventure concierges. They are onboard to take care of every small detail, to personalise your voyage to fit particular needs and interests and to make your experience unforgettable.
