We set out to create a film that gave people a real insight into the unique winter wonderland that is Swedish Lapland and the range of exciting activities on offer once there. Shot in March 2009, a team of 7 set out flying direct from Heathrow to Kiruna (in only 3 and 1/2 hours!) courtesy of Discover the World.
Nothing quite prepares you for the experience that is the iconic ICEHOTEL. Thankfully we were well looked after by the staff at the ICEHOTEL, who issued us with full thermal kit and plenty of wonderful local cuisine for the cold days filming.
"Before we arrived in Lapland I had three images in my mind of how I imagined the film was going to look. The ice palace from the first Superman movie, Narnia and something resembling the Scott and Amundson race to the south pole. I think there is a little of each in the final film, but the area is so dramatic that all we had to do was point a camera at the landscape and the scenery did the rest.
In editing it was important to retain the spirit of the place, the quiet beauty, the vast emptiness and the particular appeal that the arctic circle, with all it’s sparkling prettiness, holds for visitors."We hope you enjoyed watching the film and gaining some insight into the production as much as we enjoyed the experience of visiting such a stunning and unique winter wonderland."
