Northern Lights - the natural wonder of the north
The prospect of many long dark nights ahead is not always the most welcome thought – the sign of winter still to come – but in the far north, it is at this time of year that the magic happens. For the dark nights between October and March bring with them the tantalising prospect of witnessing nature’s own light show, the northern lights.
Mystery and wonder shroud the northern lights, otherwise known as the aurora borealis, for they do not conform to a pattern nor perform on demand. They can be fleeting and faint or elongated and bright. They can be pink, white, blue or most commonly green. They appear as slithers of light stretching across the sky or curtains of colour filling the darkness. And if you consider that no two displays are ever the same, it is not hard to understand why the sight of them or the quest to see them generates so much passion.
You have the possibility of witnessing the northern lights on any of our holidays to Iceland, Lapland or Greenland between October and mid April and our brand new Aurora Nights itinerary offers a special focus on this natural phenomenon. Aurora Nights self drive holiday»

Top of the World
Sometimes all you need is a little inspiration. Joanne and Tim Stone travelled on our North Pole Voyage this summer aboard 50 Years of Victory. The experience was incredible.

“Standing at the North Pole was something I’d dreamt of doing for many years – until a casual online search last year brought up the passenger voyages of a Russian icebreaker to 90 degrees North and the itinerary of Discover the World.
The thought of the photo opportunities, especially of a voyage that included the chance of viewing a total solar eclipse, persuaded my husband that investing in memories rather than our pension was a good idea. So, armed with a shiny Russian visa, lots of polo necks and warm socks we boarded the plane for Helsinki”.
