Polar bear watching in Spitsbergen
If you fancy seeing polar bears in their natural environment, and are looking for a summer trip, then opt for a voyage around Spitsbergen. From May to September you can enjoy spotting these amazing predators wandering on ice floes from the comfort of your ship and you can also encounter a host of other arctic wildlife including walrus, seal plus many species of bird and the elusive arctic fox.
There are many glaciers offering very good opportunities to spot polar bears and you can climb into a zodiac and cruise gently through some spectacular bays, exploring your icy surrounds for wildlife. Shore landings bring breathtaking scenery, snow-capped volcanoes, tranquil fjords, and towering sea cliffs.
A voyage offers a longer duration to explore the glaciers, gigantic icebergs and surrounding landscape of mountains and tundra. We have several cruises available and prices start from £1446 per person based on our 7-night North Spitsbergen voyage departing 13 June 2007. |
Polar bear watching in Canada
For a truly different winter weekend or short break head to Churchill, Canada and from the safety of a tundra vehicle, experience a full day or more watching these magnificent bears.
Our 4-night Polar bear weekend and our 8-night Kingdom of the Icebear trip both offer the chance to get out into the frozen wilderness in an enormous ‘tundra vehicle’ which allows you to meet the bears, at a safe distance. There is a an outside rear viewing platform that provides outstanding photographic opportunities and the bears aren't at all bothered by such a powerful all-terrain vehicle in their midst and will often come right up and stand on their hind legs to investigate – so close you can almost feel their breath!
You won’t be able to stop your camera snapping as you see these bears roll around nearby the buggies and play-fight with one another. Prices for a 4-night break start from £1490 per person with departures from October 2007.
