Where Polar Bears Hang Out
Wildlife Encounters

Do you know which town in the world has been heralded as the “Polar Bear capital of the world”?

It’s a place where polar bears like to gather en masse on the ice in October and November each year. If you’d like to see polar bears up-close this is where you need to head on holiday. Here the predominant northeast wind causes ice to pile up along the shore and the sea freezes here first because of the large volume of fresh water delivered by the nearby Churchill and Seal Rivers. Yes you’ve got it - it’s the small town of Churchill in Canada, otherwise known as the “Polar Bear capital.”

If you’d like to participate in some ecotourism and hang out with the big guys, then one of our polar bear trips to Churchill to see the largest land predators on earth in the wild could be perfect for you. Steeped in history, Churchill is the place to be for polar bear viewing as many as 1200 bears can gather here to walk out onto the ice in search of seals. On one of our polar bear watching trips you’ll be taken out onto the icy tundra where you can see the polar bears up-close from the safety of one of our tundra buggies. Don’t forget to bring your camera you’ll want to record these awesome sightings on film!
