| The central portion
of New Zealand encompasses the southernmost
tip
of the North Island, including the
capital
Wellington, and the northern part of the South Island.
Though no longer
classified as a single region, together they make up an
area of superlative nature and great cultural diversity
that
can
hold visitors for a day,
if not weeks. Linking the North and the South Islands is
the scenic ferry journey over the Cook Strait. |
Lower North
Island
Wairarapa and Wellington make this region, the former incorporating
the renowned wine region of Martinborough and the Nature
Coast. Wellington is the departure port
for travelling to the South Island
via the scenic Interislander ferry
across the Cook Strait.

Top of the South
The
northern part of the South Island is a region of
sunshine, wine and stunning nature. Picton is the
first port of call for visitors from the North Island across
the scenic Cook
Strait. Ideal for outdoor enthusiasts or just those wanting
a relaxing escape, this is a region not to be missed.
