| This is the largest of the Cook
Islands and comprises 67 square kilometres of mountains
and flat coastal areas. Encircling the island is stunning
coral reef, which harbours a lagoon of clear turquoise
waters. |
Avarua is the main town on Rarotonga and
has a friendly, bustling atmosphere. There is a ring road
around the island that is only 32 km long, making it easy
to explore, either by scooter, bicycle, car or even by
local bus. International flights land at the airport on
Rarotonga on a regular basis.
The volcanoes of Rarotonga’s interior, the white
sandy beaches and the unspoiled coral offer plenty of activities
for visitors as well as providing the base for day excursions
to outer islands.
