On a Discover the World trip, health and safety issues are of paramount importance. To that end we have a full and comprehensive Safety Management System. We are accredited members of the School Travel Forum, a Department for Children, Schools and Families initiative that recognises good practice in the field of educational visits, especially with regard to health and safety. We have also been awarded the Quality badge by Learning Outside the Classroom which recognises the commitment to the benefits of educational travel, whilst ensuring strict safety standards are met at all times. The award also means we have been pre-approved by the Outdoor Educators Advisory Panel.

Safety Management System

• Discover the World promotes a ‘health and safety culture’ throughout the company.
• The accommodation, excursions and transport offered to your group all have the necessary insurance and safety certificates and we only use suppliers who have passed the necessary audits.
• For each destination you will be supplied with a detailed risk assessment, which are constantly monitored and updated to keep your workload to a minimum.

		The Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge The LOtC is a nationally recognised award that combines all existing safety and quality badges into one easily identifiable mark of quality. This helps teachers to organise activities by helping them to identify organisations providing good quality activities, reducing paperwork, red tape and work load. Those with the award have pledged to engage in an ongoing process to sustain good-quality learning outside the classroom and have demonstrated that they meet a number of quality indicators.
		The School Travel Forum  This is a group of leading school tour operators who promote good practice and safety in educational travel. All assured members of the STF adhere to a rigorous Code of Practice and Safety Management Standards and are externally verified each year by suitably qualified independent Health and Safety professionals. Choosing an STF assured member ensures teachers, school and colleges are meeting the requirements of DCSF and Scottish Executive guidelines and that they can delegate important tasks with confidence. During the course of developing the STF Code of Practice, and in addition to liaising with the DCSF, advice has been sought from all leading educational Unions and Associations. The STF initiative is welcomed by the Outdoor Education Advisors Panel (OEAP) and the DCSF. It has the support of the ASCL, NAHT, ATL, NUT, ‘Voice – The union for education professionals’ and the NASUEWT advises members wishing to organise school trips to use companies that have this type of scheme.
