Trekking in the High Atlas
Level of difficulty Grade 1
Walk mostly downhill on sometimes rocky mule paths for between 4 and 6 hours per day. This is rambling with plenty of photo and ‘tech stops’, so sturdy trainers would suffice, but hiking boots are preferable for those who are used to them. Suitable for most hill walkers; you need to be reasonably confident of your fitness, preferably having had some previous experience of trekking.
Clearly there are many differing factors that contribute to the difficulty of a particular hike, including length of day, terrain, altitude and weather conditions. As these factors are necessarily variable, any system of grades can only provide a general indication.
