Coming Soon: The Arctic Bath, Sweden's Innovative Wellbeing Hotel
Our toes are tingling at the prospect of the Arctic Bath. And you'll have a chance to experience the new floating hotel and spa for yourself when it opens in northern Sweden next winter.
As one of the UK's leading independent travel specialists, Discover the World has been offering holidays to Europe's far north for 35 years. The Arctic Bath will be joining our extensive portfolio of Nordic itineraries. Register your interest with us today to be one of the first to hear when bookings are being taken.
Five things you need to know about the Arctic Bath
What is the Arctic Bath?
It's just an artist's impression at the moment! But when the dream becomes reality later this year, the Arctic Bath will be one of the world's most innovative and original wellbeing hotels. Why so special? Well, for starters, it floats. The Arctic Bath is being constructed on a river, caressed by flowing water in the summer, and locked in ice during winter. It will consist of two main areas: a natural circular plunge pool surrounded by sauna and treatment rooms, a hot bath and changing facilities, and a separate 'flotilla' of just six 'drift-alone' bedrooms with Scandi-chic interiors, wood burners and picture windows overlooking the river. Wondering about the design? The intricate log facade on the main building reflects the history of the area when timber was floated down-river.
The Arctic Bath is the brainchild of those clever people behind the nearby Treehotel. Why is this part of Sweden so innovative when it comes to accommodation? According to Project Manager AnnKathrin Lundqvist, "When there are a lot of innovative ideas in one place and people act on them, it spreads like ripples on the water."
Where is the Arctic Bath?
An easy one-hour road transfer from Lulea, the Arctic Bath is located on the Lule River in the far north of Sweden.
When will the Arctic Bath open?
A year-round destination, the Arctic Bath will be ready to welcome guests for the 2018/19 winter season.
What can I do at the Arctic Bath?
Relax! And feel good! The Arctic Bath is all about well-being. Take an invigorating dip in the natural, open-air pool (the water temperature during winter will be a bracing 4 degrees C), then head for a sauna, hot bath or massage. Watch this space for the full programme of wellbeing activities later this year. During winter, the Arctic Bath will also be a prime spot for northern lights watching. Just imagine taking an icy plunge while the aurora borealis blazes away overhead!
