Bordered by Sweden to the west and Russia to the East, Finland is a sparsely populated country of wide open landscapes and easy access to nature with over two-thirds covered in trees and almost 188,000 lakes. Add in a long coastline, intriguing wildlife, quiet villages and lively towns and the holiday opportunities become apparent.
During the winter, the breathtaking scenery of Finnish Lapland, where mile upon mile of pristine snow-covered wilderness and picture-perfect forests dominate the landscape, draws most attention. Home to herds of reindeer and the native Sami who tend them, this large area of wild fells and snow-laden forests has a magnetic lure and provides the backdrop for our collection of winter breaks.
Most are based on staying in a single property located throughout the region in picturesque settings.
Exhilarating snow-based activities are offered, including snowmobiling, husky sledding and cross-country skiing, plus the chance to be spellbound by the northern lights. You can even spend the night in a heated glass igloo, sleeping under the stars or on the lookout for the aurora whilst staying cosy and warm.
In contrast, the summer months bring the long days of the midnight sun allowing more time to explore and experience Finland’s abundant nature. Hike forest trails and take to the water in a canoe or experience the thrill of quad biking through the wilderness. In eastern Finland, brown bears can be seen in the taiga forests of Kuhmo together with other magnificent but elusive animals - wolverine and lynx.
Alternatively, change pace completely and escape to a countryside villa for a self-catering break in idyllic surroundings or opt for the culture of Helsinki, where modern style meets quirky charm.

THE FINNISH EXPERIENCE
Log cabins and saunas form an intrinsic part of the Finnish experience, particularly in winter and feature prominently in our holiday itineraries. The cabins we feature are built to a high standard and come in a variety of designs, for anything up to 6 persons, with kitchenette, dining facilities, lounge area and, of course, private sauna. The sauna in Finland is a way of life and they are as common in homes as having your own bathroom. To take a rejuvenating sauna after a day out in the crisp winter air is a habit to which you can soon become accustomed. Whilst traditionalists prefer wood or smoke saunas, the saunas in our cabins are electric which means they are easy to switch on and regulate the temperature.
